COLLEGE STATION – Gov. Rick Perry activated search and rescue team Texas Task Force 1 Monday morning in response to the severe flooding conditions in the Houston area.
Six swiftwater rescue teams consisting of approximately 50 Texas Task Force 1 members are en route to the team’s headquarters in College Station, where they will pre-stage for immediate response at the request of local officials in Houston. Three additional swiftwater rescue teams are on standby.
Texas Task Force 1 has also activated an air-ground coordination team in response to the wide-area flooding and will provide additional support personnel to state and local officials as needed.
The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) serves as the sponsoring agency for Texas Task Force 1. The team functions as a statewide urban search and rescue and water rescue asset under direction of the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management. Texas Task Force 1 consists of nearly 300 emergency responders from 60 organizations across Texas.
