Construction is under way on a new 400-meter state-of-the-art fitness track facility that will enhance physical training for the cadets at TEEX’s Central Texas Police Academy, located at the Texas A&M Riverside Campus.
The new track is the first phase of a complete physical skills training center, part of a proposed capital improvement program for TEEX's Public Safety and Security. Once approved, the training center will also include a mat room for defensive tactics training, a weight room, driving and firearms simulators and locker room facilities.
“Physical skills are vital to the complete training of law enforcement officers” said Cullen Grissom, program manager for TEEX’s Academy. “The fitness track and physical skills training center will ensure that the graduating cadets are fully prepared to fulfill the demands of their new careers.”
Public Safety and Security Division Director Tom Shehan added: “Our primary mission at the Central Texas Police Academy is to support the Brazos Valley law enforcement community by providing quality training for future officers. Through enhanced capabilities such as this circuit training track, the academy can better ensure that these cadets will become true assets to the communities they serve.”
TEEX, a member of The Texas A&M University System, offers hands-on, customized training exercises, technical assistance and technology transfer services impacting Texas and beyond.
