Dr. G. Kemble Bennett, director of the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), was selected to serve as vice chancellor of engineering for The Texas A&M University System, dean of the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University and director of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES). The decision was approved by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents on Sept. 27, 2002.

Bennett has been director of TEEX since 1992. He earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Florida State University, a master of science degree in engineering mathematics from San Jose State University and a doctorate in industrial engineering from Texas Tech University.

“Dr. Bennett has proven to be an outstanding leader throughout his career,” said Erle Nye, chairman of the A&M System Board of Regents. “He has demonstrated a keen understanding of the complex issues facing the engineering world today.”

“This position is critical for Texas A&M, TEES and the leadership at the System level,” said Howard D. Graves, chancellor of the A&M System. “Dr. Bennett has the experience and insight that would benefit the entire A&M System.”

“Texas A&M is committed to the goal of moving to the top 10 among public universities nationally,” said Dr. Robert Gates, president of Texas A&M. “While many of our engineering programs already rank at or near the top, Dr. Bennett has shown that he has the leadership skills to move them to the next level nationally and internationally.”

Bennett is leading one of the largest Engineering Programs in the nation, encompassing the educational, research, extension and professional development activities of the Texas A&M University Dwight Look College of Engineering and three state agencies: TEES, TEEX and the Texas Transportation Institute.
