Course Description

H2S trainingThe Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Instructor Development course provides qualified candidate instructors with crucial knowledge surrounding the delivery of H2S training. During training participants not only receive delivery techniques from seasoned professionals, each is provided with updated technical information as well. Once training is completed, candidate instructors will have the ability to explain the hazards associated with H2S and describe how federal and state H2S regulatory standards along with other established industry criteria link together to reduce the potential of exposure and risks involved with H2S. Candidate instructors will also practice the delivery of assigned sections during class covering various areas of expertise to include, petroleum and natural gas industries, utilities, research and development, laboratories, transportation, paper/pulp/food processing, chemical manufacturing, leather tanning, waste disposal.

Prerequisites

TEEX Certification/Licensing Requirement 

Participants must complete the Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Instructor Development Student Qualification Form attesting they possess an awareness level understanding of Hydrogen Sulfide, to include the following topics:
  • Properties and characteristics of H2S
  • Sources of H2S and areas of potential exposure
  • Typical safe work practices associated with H2S operations
  • Detection methods of H2S
  • H2S engineering and mitigation controls
  • Properties, characteristics, and safe work practices of sulfur dioxide SO2
  • Selection, use, and care of personal protective equipment (to include respiratory protection) associated with H2S environments
  • Rescue techniques and first aid procedures for victims of H2S Exposure

Once completed, this document may be uploaded during registration using the TEEX Student Portal. Once received and approved, the participant will be notified by email they have met all prerequisites and have been added to the class roster. All documentation is due at least 14 business days prior to the start of class.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
