Course Description

This course is five (5) days in duration and is designed to meet the needs of the advance-level fire instructor. The Fire Instructor III course is designed to meet or exceed the elements of NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, Chapter 6 “Fire Instructor III”. The course is designed around classroom lectures and group activities.

Upon completion of this course you are eligible to schedule the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) exam, should you meet the TCFP requirements. Participants are also eligible to apply for certification through State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association (SFFMA).

This course does NOT offer Pro Board certification.

Pricing Information: Employees or members of a Fire Department or Agency that is a political subdivision of, or component thereof, the State of Texas are eligible to receive tuition credit from TEEX based on subsidized funding from the State of Texas for this class. 

Cost: $500.00 per student for Texas Firefighters, departments or agencies 

Standard Cost: $1,000.00 per student Non-Texas Municipal or State Firefighter

Registration Information: For regional open enrollment classes, a minimum of 15 students must be registered no less than 21 days prior to the start date of class. If the minimum enrollment requirement is not met, the class will be cancelled.

TCFP Certification Requirements

Participants interested in pursuing certification through TCFP should review their website for requirements.

SFFMA Certification Requirements 

Participants that successfully complete this course, can submit their TEEX certificate of completion, along with SFFMA certification application, to the SFFMA office for processing.

Course Completion Requirements

Course Attire

For classroom activities, participants must wear full length pants, closed-toe shoes, and short sleeve/ long sleeve shirts (no sleeveless shirts). It is preferred that participants wear duty uniform or business casual dress.

Participants Must Provide

  • Textbook: Fire and Emergency Services Instuctor, 9th edition
  • Laptop computer with Microsoft PowerPoint and Word software (or compatible software)
  • Flash drive
  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification andr additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion.  

Prior Knowledge 

It is recommended that participants have a working knowledge of basic computer function, Microsoft PowerPoint and Word applications, and computer projection equipment.
