Description

This course will provide the knowledge and skills to operate fire service pumps and pump apparatus. You will discuss hydraulics, pump theory, water supply operations, and practice these skills in a variety of pumping scenarios. All apparatus will be furnished by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).

Description

This course will provide the knowledge and skills to operate fire service pumps and pump apparatus. You will discuss hydraulics, pump theory, water supply operations, and practice these skills in a variety of pumping scenarios. All apparatus will be furnished by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).

Prerequisites

NFPA 1002 Driver Operator/Pumper Phase 1

Course Completion Requirements

You must bring a personal calculator with a square root function.

Personal Protective Equipment PPE

PPE Leve 2 as described in the TEEX Student Safety Manual.

All students are required to follow the TEEX Student Safety Manual at all times.

  • Hard Hat
  • Work gloves
  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Steel-toe/safety-toe boots or shoes

Attire

  • Regular station duty wear for fire field activities
  • Office attire for classroom sessions
  • You may NOT wear to any class or field activity: shorts, sleeveless shirts, or open-toed shoes

Recommended

Student should be trained to the level of NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2.

It is strongly recommended student purchase and bring prior to attending:

Textbook "Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook", 3rd Edition", which can be purchased from:
IFSTA or thru the SFFMA

This textbook will be used for both Driver Operator/Pumper Phase 1 and Phase 2.

TEEX will not provide or sell the recommended IFSTA textbook.

READING ASSIGNMENT PRIOR TO ATTENDING CLASS:  Chapters 10-15 from the Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook, 3rd Edition.
