This course will provide the knowledge and skills to operate fire service pumps and pump apparatus. You will discuss hydraulics, pump theory, and water supply operations, and practice these skills in a variety of pumping scenarios. All apparatus will be furnished by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
You must bring a personal calculator with a square root function.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Regular station duty wear for fire field activities
- Office attire for classroom sessions.
- You may not wear to any class or field activity
- sleeveless shirts
- open-toed shoes
Student should be trained to the level of NFPA 1002 Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2.
It is strongly recommended student purchase and bring prior to attending:
Textbook "Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook", 3rd Edition", which can be purchased from:
IFSTA or thru the SFFMA

This textbook will be used for both Driver Operator/Pumper Phase 1 and Phase 2.
TEEX will not provide or sell the recommended IFSTA textbook.
