This area school is designed for individuals who may respond to an incident involving a lost person or persons in a wilderness or wilderness/urban interface environment, or those who desire training/certification in this field. This course follows the SFFMA curriculum and objectives for Wilderness Rescuer (NFPA 1006, ed. 2013). While not a prerequisite for attending this course, individuals wishing SFFMA certification will be required to show proof of rescue apprentice training before certification will be issued.
Must attend all sessions for credit.
SFFMA Rescue Apprentice (NFPA 1006, current ed.) is required prior to submission of coursework for certification.
Course Completion Requirements
Long pants, closed toed shoes, eye protection, and helmet with suspension and chin strap (wildland, fire helmet, rescue type helmet, or hard hat with chin strap) will be required for hands on activity. Students will be required to build and use a basic 24-hour SAR pack for field activities. Information and instructions will be given to each registrant prior to hands on activity day.
This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements.
Although not required, it is recommended that each student have completed a rescue apprentice class prior to attending this course.

Any responders assigned to or seeking training in wilderness search and rescue duties or techniques, as well as any individual assigned to or seeking training in management of wilderness search and rescue incidents.
