Grant-Funded Incident Management Training

The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) offers a grant-funded course, WMD Incident Management/ Unified Command (MGT-313), for jurisdictions across the country. The course is funded by DHS/FEMA and offered at no charge to qualified participants. Using a team-building approach, the course trains emergency response supervisors and managers in the skills necessary to effectively plan for and manage a WMD (CBRNE)/terrorism incident. They learn to apply the all-hazards command and management standards of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) as required in the National Response Framework. DHS has deemed the course to be ICS-300 compliant and equivalent. Public Works: Planning for and Responding to a Terrorism/WMD Incident (MGT317)

This grant-funded course, Public Works: Planning for and Responding to a Terrorism/WMD Incident, trains all first responders, including public works personnel, in their responsibilities to protect, restore and maintain critical infrastructure and services during a terrorist incident.

If you are in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, PR, RI, SC, SD, TN, UT, VA, VI, WA, WI, you will need to register through your state's Homeland Security training office. Please note: that if you are in Idaho, you now must go through your state Homeland Security Office to register.

How Kids are Learning to Kill and Learning to Like it

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman

:Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, director of Killology Research Group, will Speak August 11, on the topic of human aggression and the roots of violence and violent crime. Grossman is a West Point psychology professor, professor of military science and an Army ranger who has combined his experiences to become the founder of a new scientific endeavor, which has bee termed "killology."

Killology focuses on the reactions of healther people in killing circumstances (such as police and military combat) and the factors that enable and restrain killing in these situations. This presentation is sponsored by: TEEX Public Safety & Security, Brazos Valley Council of Governments, and the College Station Police Department. The seminar will be held August 11, at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center in College Station.

Attendees will receive 8 hours of credit with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).

Four New Grant-Funded TEEX Disaster Management Courses Offered Soon!

1. Disaster Management for Electric Power Systems

This 16-hour course provides training to electric system managers, operators, supervisors, and employees to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a natural or manmade incident affecting electric power facilities and systems.

2. Disaster Preparedness for Healthcare/Hospital Systems and Infrastructure

This 16-hour course brings together those emergency management personnel from within a jurisdiction and hospitals who would be required to manage or react to a natural or manmade event within their community as it relates to the medical and hospital infrastructure and its personnel.

3. Disaster Management for Water and Wastewater - Senior Officials

This 4-hour course brings together those elected or appointed officials from within a jurisdiction who would be required to manage or react to any natural or manmade incident that could potentially affect a water or wastewater utility.

4. Disaster Management for Water and Wastewater Utilities

This 16-hour course provides training to water and wastewater utility personnel on issues concerning preparing for, responding to, and recovering from natural or manmade incidents affecting water or wastewater facilities.

Project Protect

The mission of Project Protect is to enhance the safety of students by helping schools prevent, prepare, respond and recover from crisis and targeted acts of violence.

The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), a member of The Texas A&M University System, has partnered with the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) at Texas State University San Marcos to offer a complete package of planning, training and readiness exercises for school districts that will assist in emergency response preparation and planning. Project Protect also provides participants with a current, multi-hazard operations plan that addresses mitigation/prevention, preparedness, response and recovery to emergencies.
