This workshop will introduce participants to the Wastewater Response
Protocol Toolbox (Toolbox), a new guidance tool being released by the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Toolbox addresses
planning for and responding to incidents of intentional and accidental
contamination of wastewater systems.
This workshop is a combination of facilitated discussion (Day 1) and
extended classroom activity (Day 2). The discussion portion is designed
to introduce and explain the concepts of the Toolbox. During the
classroom activity, a simple tabletop exercise is conducted to simulate
the actions that participants would take during a real incident. The
participants are divided into functional groups based upon their real
life job responsibilities. These groups are then given a wastewater
incident to respond to, with information provided as the mock incident
unfolds in real time. The groups communicate by radio and work to
respond to the incident in a manner consistent with the Toolbox.
