Disaster City® Guide app for iPhone® launched
  TEEX's Urban Search & Rescue (US&R) division has launched the first iPhone® application designed, tested and fielded by the agency. The Disaster City® Guide application, which is available at no cost on iTunes®, provides users with basic information about what to do to prepare for and survive various disasters.

Texas Task Force 1 Demobilized from Haiti Deployment
  Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) and all other US teams currently on standby have been demobilized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and will not deploy to Haiti.

Texas Task Force 1 stands ready at Ellington for deployment to Haiti
  Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) continues to stand ready at Ellington Field in Houston for deployment to Haiti. The 80-member structural collapse team will be bringing 50 tons of rescue equipment and supplies to assist with the search and rescue operation.

Texas Task Force 1 deploying to Haiti to support search and rescue operation
  Texas Governor Rick Perry has authorized Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) to deploy at the request of FEMA to support search and rescue operations in the Caribbean nation of Haiti. This deployment marks the first international deployment since the team was established in 1998. The task force will deploy to the Caribbean nation aboard Department of Defense aircraft from Houston on the afternoon of Jan. 14. TX-TF1 will be joining other task forces that have been activated from Virginia, California and Florida.

Large Animal Emergency Rescue Awareness course trains responders
  Rescuing a large animal, such as a horse, following an accident or a disaster can be challenging to emergency responders, who may not be trained to handle this type of incident. That's why TEEX recently helped to conduct a two-day course on Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue (TLAER) Awareness.

  The Texas Task Force 1 cache of equipment recently received a "thumbs-up" following an inspection by members of the 136th Logistics Readiness Squadron of the Texas Military Forces.

NERRTC to receive $23 million from homeland security appropriations bill
  The president has signed the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act for 2010 (H.R. 2892) - providing TEEX's National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center with $23 million in funding under the Homeland Security National Training Program Cooperative Agreement.

Texas Workforce Commission grants TEEX $4.2 million for emergency services training
  The Texas Workforce Commission has approved a $4.2 million grant for TEEX to provide emergency services training to more than 1,600 Texas workers. The funds will be used to train employees from eight companies at 24 locations in Texas through the TEEX Emergency Services Energy Consortium Training Project. Thirty courses will be offered in industrial firefighting, rescue, HazMat, emergency medical services and leadership training.
