Heavy equipment operator skills training paves the way to employment
  A new TEEX 240-hour Heavy Equipment Operator Training program has graduated its first class, providing the graduates with hands-on skills training that can serve as a “stepping stone” to a job in the construction field. The program was a collaborative effort of TEEX and the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services.

EDA grant will promote green economic development opportunities in rural Texas
  The Economic Development Administration (EDA), of the U.S. Department of Commerce, has awarded more than $516,000 to TEEX for a statewide education program on sustainable and green economic development opportunities for rural and economically distressed areas of Texas.

Texas State Guard receives oil spill response & incident management training
  Over the next three days, 26 members of the Texas State Guard are receiving specialized training in oil spill response strategies from the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). The hands-on training is being conducted Aug. 10-12 at Lake Bastrop – North Shore Park.

Concrete-breaching tool demonstrated at Disaster City®
  TEEX's Disaster City® is fast becoming the top destination worldwide for testing and demonstrating new tools and technology for urban search and rescue responders. This was evident recently as TEEX instructors and responders put a new, portable, self-contained concrete-breaching tool to the test.

90 TEEX courses approved for college credit by American Council on Education
  The American Council on Education (ACE) recently recommended college credit for 29 additional TEEX courses, bringing the number of TEEX courses approved for ACE credit to 90. More than 1,800 colleges recognize ACE-approved courses.

Legislators battle blazes to gain perspective on state’s firefighter training
  Nearly 40 Texas Legislators and staff members were in College Station Wednesday, along with staff members serving U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn and U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, to learn more about the training that Texas firefighters receive to better protect citizens and property.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Nearly 2,000 firefighters take the heat to improve skills
  The 81st Annual Municipal Fire Training School is under way this week. It's the largest school of its kind in the world. This year, more than 1,900 students and 502 guest instructors and safety officers are in attendance. The school is hosted by the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in conjunction with the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas.

TX-TF1 demobilizes swiftwater & helicopter rescue teams from Rio Grande flooding
  Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) swiftwater and helicopter rescue teams were demobilized Wednesday, July 21, by the Texas Division of Emergency Management after a seven-day deployment to South Texas for widespread flooding along the Rio Grande river.

Industrial firefighters attend training; Municipal School starts July 25
  Exactly 533 firefighters from refineries and other industries from across the country are attending a week of training at Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station. The 48th annual Industrial Fire School will continue through Friday.
