Explosives & UXO Training

spacer graphic

The TEEX Explosives Training program consists of two areas; Ordnance Removal & Remediation (OR&R) and Explosive Training for Law Enforcement (ETLE). The OR&R Certificate offers participants courses designed to prepare graduates for entry into the unexploded ordnance (UXO) industry. TEEX developed the UXO Technician Level-I course in 1999 and remains the only civilian school originally certified by the Department of Defense Safety Board. ETLE addresses the use of explosives for tactical entry operations as well as advanced knowledge in the safe identification of and response to military ordnance incidents.

TEEX SPOTLIGHT: TEEX Receives High Marks from NAOC

Ed Fritz

Recently the National Association of Ordnance and Explosives Waste Contractors (NAOC) Operations and Standards Committee visited the TEEX Public Safety & Security Riverside Campus to observe delivery of the Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician I course. TEEX received high praise from the observation team. The official report submitted to the NAOC Board of Directors confirmed TEEX is meeting or exceeding all training requirements established by Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board Technical Paper-18 (DDESB TP-18).

In 1995 NAOC was established as a non-profit and currently serves as a unified industry voice representing issues facing its membership in the rapidly expanding business of military munitions response services. NAOC is governed by a board of directors with recommended actions surrounding industry needs provided through both standing and ad hoc committees.

In 1999 the TEEX UXO Technician training program, the first civilian UXO training school ever established, received certification by the Department of Defense and remains the only civilian UXO training school certified by the DOD before the practice was ceased the following year. Recognizing the importance of maintaining quality training standards and the use of safe practices within the industry, the NAOC Operations and Standards Committee recently began a program to formally observe UXO technician training and provide a report to the Board of Directors once completed. The goal of the NAOC observation program is to help ensure individuals are being provided quality training that meets the minimum requirements of DDESB TP-18.

The following NAOC Operations and Standards Committee members participated in the recent observation of TEEX UXO training; Rick Hanoski (EA Engineering, Science and Technology Inc.), Sonny Richards (Shaw), Jacob Shank (Aeroteck) and Dan Tompkins (ECC).
