The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is providing grant-funded training to address issues identified in post-incident Process Safety Management (PSM) assessments. The training is conducted by the OSHA Training Institute Southwest Education Center through a Susan Harwood Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor and all training materials are provided.

This training is available to employers and employees in all SIC codes covered under OSHA PSM regulations. Training is also available to internal and contract employees and employers that service PSM sites, including internal and external Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and PSM auditors. Courses below will count towards the CSHO tracks (where applicable). TEEX serves OSHA Region VI, which includes New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Classes may be conducted on-site at a plant or at a facility nearby.

PRT222 Respiratory Protection
Length: 31 Hours / 4 Days
This course covers the requirements for establishing, maintaining, and monitoring a respirator program. Course highlights include workshops on qualitative fit testing, respirator selection and the use of a large array of respiratory and support equipment.
PRT226 Permit-Required Confined Space Entry
Length: 31 Hours / 4 Days
This course is designed to increase the student’s knowledge of hazards associated with permit-required confined space entry. This course discusses the use and limitations of explosion meters, oxygen meters, and other test equipment. Includes the operation and calibration of gas monitoring equipment. The course also includes entry labs
PRT301 Process Safety Management (PSM) Survival
Length: 23 Hours / 3 Days
This course introduces the participants to the OSHA Process Safety Management standard and prepares them to develop a PSM program specific to an employer’s safety management needs. Relevant exercises including job hazard analysis help the participants apply the regulations and principles. This course is designed for engineers, safety professionals, management and others who seek a broadbased introduction to the requirements of the OSHA PSM rule.
PRT302 Process Safety Manager (PSM) Auditor
Length: 20 Hours / 3 Days
This course develops the skills necessary to audit a process safety management program. The process safety management standard will be examined in depth, and auditing skills will be applied to it. This course is designed for anyone with responsibility for compliance with the PSM standard, including site owners and contractors.
Prerequisites: Process safety management experience or PRT301- PSM Survival
PRT248 Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) Overview
Length: 7 Hours/ 1 Day
This course is designed to provide a general overview of OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs for sites considering the value of participating in the VPP. Topics will include the history and successes of VPP and the program application process. Students will gain insight that can help make the program a priority with senior management.
