Technical Skills Training Area

Training at Disaster City® begins in the Technical Skills Training Area, a progressive environment offering a series of full-scale work stations for hands-on skills development. The skill objective of each station builds upon each previous one to deliver a full range of skills training. Students learn how to combine tools and techniques to lift and remove heavy objects, construct interior and exterior shoring, and practice breaching and breaking concrete in a variety of disciplines:

  • Crane Operations
  • Exterior Shoring
  • Interior Shoring
  • Breaching-Breaking Tunnel
  • Trench Rescue

A Scotland USAR team uses a concrete drill to enter a tunnel at the technical skills breaching and breaking training area.

 

Technical skills training area

Teams practice drilling and cutting through concrete (pictured here), wood and metal utilizing various tools and machinery ranging from concrete saws to petrogen cutting torches.
